What Makes Sterling Silver Jewelry Last Longer?

Sterling silver can last for years, even decades, when it is made well and cared for properly. The problem is not that silver is fragile. The problem is that many people treat all jewelry the same, then wonder why some pieces age badly.

Quality matters first

Look for 925 sterling silver and solid construction. Thin, hollow, or poorly finished pieces will not wear the same as thoughtful designs with proper weight and finishing.

Tarnish is normal

Sterling silver can tarnish when exposed to air, moisture, lotions, perfume, sweat, and household chemicals. Tarnish does not mean the piece is ruined. In many cases, it simply needs polishing. Make sure to store your sterling and gold vermeil items in the storage bag that is included with your So Pretty purchase. An air tight plastic container or zip-lock bag also works.

Storage changes everything

Store sterling silver in an air-tight, dry place, ideally in the storage bag we provide or a sealed jewelry box. Leaving it on a bathroom counter is basically asking moisture to do its worst.

Daily habits help

Put jewelry on after perfume, hairspray, lotion, and sunscreen. Take it off before swimming, heavy cleaning, and intense workouts. These small habits do more than any miracle cleaning trick.
